Chief Nuclear Officer

Steve Swilley is EPRI's Vice President of Nuclear and Chief Nuclear Officer. He has overall management and technical responsibility for EPRI's R&D activities related to the global operating nuclear fleet.
Previously, Swilley was Senior Director and Deputy Chief Nuclear Officer and in 2021 promoted to Vice President Nuclear and Deputy Chief Nuclear Officer responsible for administrative and technical direction for EPRI’s nuclear materials, plant support, and innovation functions, with research focused on materials issues, welding, long term operations, flexible operations, nondestructive evaluation (NDE), artificial intelligence, data analytics, and advanced nuclear technology.
Swilley previously served as Director of the Nuclear NDE Department, the world's leading independent resource for NDE in the nuclear power industry, and as Senior Program Manager of Advanced Nuclear Technology (ANT). In this role, Swilley guided research activities to enable and build confidence in new nuclear plant deployment. His first role at EPRI was Program Manager of NDE Technologies, in which he guided research activities focused on areas including steam generator and Balance of Plant (BOP) heat exchanger tubing, buried pipe, and component health monitoring.
Prior to joining EPRI in 2003, Swilley worked at TXU Energy in engineering roles supporting construction and operation of the Comanche Peak units and held various positions of responsibility related to ASME Code, mechanical design, system testing, system engineering, welding engineering, outage coordination, and project management.
Swilley received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Arkansas and is a registered professional mechanical engineer in the state of Texas.
